Cavities: The Biggest Culprit in Modern Dentistry

With the increasing number of dental problems today, dental cavities remain as the number one culprit in modern dentistry.

A cavity or tooth decay is a disease that attacks the tooth enamel – mostly on kids or youngsters. Kids love and adore sweets and sugary snacks so much. However, experts confirmed that these sweet foods are really not sweet at all. This is because it magnets a number of bad bacteria and irritants which situates near the teeth and gums. In most cases, tooth cavities develop rapidly when the person’s mouth is bombarded by high level of carbohydrates. The most common and evident sign of dental cavity is toothache. From the word itself, ‘ache’, toothache is disease that introduces sharp pain which rips you inside out. Bad breath exists when a tooth is impacted by a certain bacteria that are neglected for a very long time. As this irritant develops, it results to a cavity or decay. When a decayed tooth is ignored, it starts to create awful smell. Contrary, severe tooth decay can be detected if gums start to swell specifically near the impacted tooth.

Even though cavities are inevitable, this doesn’t stop dental experts from discovering effective ways in solving such culprit.

Dental fillings come in different varieties including amalgam filling, composite resin, silver alloy, gold and porcelain. In dental filling procedure, the dentist will drill and remove the decayed part of the tooth and then replaced it with a filling. This can also assist with cracked teeth. Other than dental filling is the dental crown procedure. Dental crown is typically used when the tooth decay is already too severe.

In case a nerve or tooth pulp is disturbed due to severe decays, a root canal procedure is executed. In this treatment, the pulp tissue is removed together with the decayed tooth. Once realized, the dentist will cover the roots using a sealant material.
